Medigap Plan D Benefits

Medigap Plan D covers most of the gaps in Original Medicare for you, except the Part B deductible and any excess charges. An excess charge is defined as an additional amount you will pay if a doctor or provider charges more than the Medicare-allowed amount. You will need to pay out-of-pocket for these two minor items if you decide to purchase a Medigap Plan D policy. However, the plan does cover all of the most important things, such as the 20% of outpatient services you would otherwise be responsible for.

It may be wise to compare pricing between Medigap Plan D and Plan F or G, which have more comprehensive benefits. This can help you determine if the savings are worth the additional financial exposure to you. Some people would rather pay more for their Medigap plan if they know that everything will be covers. And some people don't mind a tiny bit of cost-sharing to get a lower monthly premium.

Medigap Plan D Is NOT "Medicare Part D"

This is a big area of confusion for most people. Medicare Part D is the prescription drug program that is available to all Medicare eligible beneficiaries. It's basically a pharmacy card. Medigap Plan D is one of the ten Medicare Supplement plans available to you.

If you still find this confusing, feel free to give us a call and we will help break it all down for you. We will explain in simple to understand terms how your benefits work and how a Medigap plan works with them. Understanding how your coverage works is important when you are buying a Medigap plan.
